ALT BLK ERA is a bold and unconventional sister duo from Nottingham, comprised of Nyrobi and Chaya. Their music mixes nu-metal, rap, punk, and electronic elements, creating a unique and exciting sound. Known for their heavy basslines, electric guitars, and fast-paced rap, they also create softer songs with dark strings, haunting harmonies, and a spooky, feel.
The duo started their musical journey during the lockdown by posting cover songs on YouTube. With their mother’s encouragement to learn about the music business and release their own tracks, they soon discovered their unique sound. Inspired by a wide range of artists like The Prodigy, Ashnikko, and Rico Nasty, they have created a style that breaks traditional genre boundaries.
Although they are relatively new to the music scene, ALT BLK ERA has already made impressive progress. Their debut EP, “Freak Show,” released on September 1st, 2023, highlights their talent for blending jagged electronics, heavy riffs, and fast beats with powerful, raw lyrics. This EP reflects their rebellious, youthful spirit and dedication to independence. The duo has performed at major festivals like Reading & Leeds and Glastonbury, earning praise from influential figures in the music industry. They have been featured on the BBC Introducing Mixtape and won the Future Sound of Nottingham competition, establishing themselves as rising stars in the alternative music scene.
